Picture House Past Day
Book TicketsTime: All Day
Join us at the Ulster Folk Museum to celebrate Northern Ireland’s picture house past with a day packed full of screenings, talks and activities!
Learn all about the picture houses that were once scattered across Northern Ireland, including the Ulster Folk Museum picture house which began its life in the village of Gilford in the early 1900s. There will be talks from the Heritage Officer of the Strand Arts Centre in Belfast (now NI’s only surviving operational 1930s picture house!) and the Ulster Folk Museum's Senior Curator of History.
We’ll have a special rolling programme of early film shot in Northern Ireland playing throughout the day in the picture house which will offer a rare glimpse of times gone by and our lost cinema history. There’ll also be plenty of hands on activities for families! Have a go at making your own zoetrope or explore early photography by creating cyanotypes.
This is a full day event included within your general admission ticket. You can book general admission through the link at the top of our website or at the admission kiosk on the day.
