Join us on Saturday 3rd August for a species identification workshop with the National Biodiversity Data Centre (NBDC). Oisín Duffy from the NBDC will introduce us to the species of Ladybird and Shieldbug currently found in Northern Ireland and the Republic of Ireland. He will also introduce the Ladybird Atlas 2025 project.

In this workshop, you will learn to look for features used to identify the insects and what resources are available to help. After the introduction, you will visit the nearby grounds of the Folk Museum to find species to identify.

What to know:

  • This event will take place in the Lagan Room at the Ulster Folk Museum where tea and coffee will be provided before heading into the museum grounds.
  • This workshop is suitable for 18+
  • All levels of species identification experience are welcome.
  • Suitable clothing and footwear for outdoor fieldwork is essential.
  • Please consider bringing along sunscreen, a hat, water, and your net if you have one.

Please bring a packed lunch as we will be out in the field most of the day.
