About the artist

Grace McMurray is an artist based in Belfast and Rathfriland. Grace is a member of the Array Collective, an arts and activist collective who won the 2021 Turner Prize.  They graduated with a BA in Fine Art sculpture at Wimbledon College of Art London in 2008. Recent projects include NGXX at Naughton Gallery Belfast (2022), Remotely Radical at Vault Studios (2022) and Irish Modernisms at CCA Derry (2021).  They won the Arts Club Award at the Royal Academy Summer Exhibition (2019).

Grace McMurray uses drawing, patchwork, knitting, weaving and installation to question stereotypes of gendered spaces and social conditioning in the public imagination. Subverting function, processing personal narratives, symbolising the invisible constant accumulation of unpaid labour. They attempt to reconstruct a sense of self, the psychogeography of the body, considering loss, isolation, dysmorphia, shame and relationships.
